Introducing Fraude Design

Today, we’re launching Fraude Design, a new Bullshit Labs product that lets you collaborate with your own bad ideas to create polished mistakes.

I am once again asking you to get a fucking grip

This whole thing is of course very tongue-in-cheek, but the collective self-gaslighting of vast swathes of the tech industry is absolutely real, and absolutely weird.

Now, whether that’s enough of a problem for some absolute fucking idiot to spend a weekend building a fake site builder that actually somehow kinda works just to make fun of AI hypers is another question altogether. To which I retort why the fuck not?

We simply do not mock these people enough, and we should all be working to remedy this.

Push back the erosion of craft

There will always exist people who don’t want to put in the effort to get what they perceive to be good results. For as long as design as a practice has existed, there have been people wilfully ignorant to the power of good design. The fact that a lot of those people are now actual designers is wild, but that’s a different discussion and this is already a pretty strange meta-narrative within the about page of a fake website building tool.

The thing is, when you cut corners, the first people who tend to suffer are those already marginalised. Our world is designed inequitably and full of systemic bias. Gnerative anything serves almost exclusively to further ingrain this bias.

Accessibility, cognitive economy, and the very notion of creativity are being bypassed in the name of output. Said output will be produced at an industrial scale, the likes of which we’ve never really seen in this industry. Some of it might even be good; by accident and by luck more than anything else. But we can’t just sit by and hope that a milquetoast, derivative magic box can produce things that elevate the human experience.

By humans, for humans. Piss on your nearest data centre. Okay love ya bye.
